Through the H-GAC Hurricane Ike Housing Recovery Program taking place in Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Matagorda, Montgomery, Walker and Waller counties, the community has a chance to rebuild after the devastating damage of Hurricane Ike. In Chambers County specifically, H-GAC is now accepting applicants for the program and is encouraging any homeowners with storm damaged homes to apply. As part of the first round of the program in Chambers County, seven homes have already been completed and there is funding available for 68 more. Also ramping up is the program’s second round in Chambers County, which is capable of funding the reconstruction or repair of an additional 160 homes.
Round 1 construction began on June 15, 2013 and as of today, there are seven happy homeowners living in their newly reconstructed homes. With an average construction build time of 34 days, DSW Homes is working hard to provide quality homes to the community. “We are here to serve the community and welcome people back into their homes,” DSW Homes Owner Steve Mataro said. “When we hand over the keys to a newly reconstructed or remodeled home, we give our homeowners a gift basket as a sign of our heartfelt appreciation for letting us be a part of their lives.” DSW Homes is working closely with H-GAC, local municipalities and individual homeowners to make the entire construction process as smooth as possible. “We love the people here,” said DSW Homes Production Manager Jonathan Walter. “They have suffered a lot of damage and through the H-GAC Housing Recovery Program, they can rebuild not only their homes but their lives. Bringing happiness to our homeowners is by far the best part of my job.” This philosophy is shared by all DSW Homes employees, they treat homeowners as members of their family and strive to meet all their needs, even providing moving help and transportation to and from appointments.
