Hurricane Ike made landfall in Texas in September 2008 and left behind severe damage to the island of Galveston. To help rebuild the community, funds were granted to the City of Galveston to complete needed housing repairs. Round 1 of the City of Galveston disaster recovery program was a that included both reconstruction and rehabilitation projects. Unfortunately, multiple General Contractors were not able to finish the work provided to them. DSW Homes was given the opportunity to help turn the program around. Although we were awarded some new assignments, most of the work we received came in the form of “takeovers” from other contractors who weren’t able to finish their scopes of work.
As part of Round 1, we reconstructed 23 homes and rehabilitated an additional 76 homes. Construction for Round 1 is now wrapping up and DSW Homes has started construction activities in Round 2 of this program.
