CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF, YOUR BACKGROUND, AND WHAT LED YOU TO YOUR ROLE AS AN ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE CLERK AT DSW HOMES?
Yvette: My name is Yvette. I am an accounts receivable clerk. I've been here with DSW for about 10 months now. I have accounting background. I used to work at a different construction company, and that's kind of what led me to disaster recovery industry. As well, I've been in the medical field, but I think that my passion now is more on the construction side, and that is what led me here to DSW.
CAN YOU WALK US THROUGH A TYPICAL DAY IN YOUR ROLE AS AN ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE CLERK AT DSW HOMES, AND HOW DO YOU ENSURE TIMELY AND ACCURATE PAYMENT PROCESSING?
Yvette: So, a typical day starts checking our OSDR and our tracker system, kind of making sure what's out there to be built, and making sure that all the documentation is uploaded into tracker. And if it's not, then we will make sure that we put correct notes for anybody that wants to review and know the status of those draws. My biggest thing is communication, so the more notes that there are, the better, so that way everybody knows exactly what's going on with each draw. As well as checking any outstanding overdue payments and seeing what we need to do to clear those out.
HOW DOES YOUR ROLE CONTRIBUTE TO THE OVERALL SUCCESS OF DSW HOMES, AND WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST REWARDING ABOUT YOUR WORK?
Yvette: So, as an accounts receivable, it is essential for us to keep a clean cash flow. I find that most rewarding about my role is the sense of accomplishment that comes from overcoming challenges and seeing the real-world impact for our efforts. Whether it's resolving a billing issue or ensuring an invoice is processed correctly and in a timely manner is a big part of the accounts receivable department to overall the company.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE WORK CULTURE AT DSW HOMES, AND HOW HAS IT SUPPORTED YOUR PROFESSIONAL GROWTH?
Yvette: So the work culture at DSW Homes is grounded in their core values of resilience, integrity, stewardship, and excellence, which truly set the company apart.
WHAT’S A SIGNIFICANT CHALLENGE YOU’VE FACED IN MANAGING ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE, AND HOW DID YOU OVERCOME IT?
Yvette: So one of the main challenges we face managing the accounts receivable when we when I first started here was dealing with a large number of overdue accounts across multiple programs and different states, because every program I mean we manage here is within not just Texas but around the US. So which was impacting our cash daily flows and to address this, we collaborated closely with our program managers and and and the team to identify any underlying issues within the programs that were contributing to the delays.
CLOSING REMARKS
Yvette: You know, I'll say that when I first started working accounts receivable, I had no knowledge of what disaster recovery AR was and how to deal with all the programs. And every program is very different and unique. So, I've only been in the accounts receivable for about five months now within my 10-month range here at DSW. When I first started with DSW, I started as accounts payable. And so, to overcome all the challenges has been pretty awesome and rewarding. And we hope to continue doing more for this company.
